Fingerprint Egg – My Favorite

Lily lays an egg!

Lily lays an egg!

Younger kids will delight in this hands-on style- and their thumbprints are eggsactly the right size!  Mommies love them, too!

You will need:

  • Hard-cooked eggs
  • Finger paints or tempera paints
  • Shallow non-staining dishes
  • Fine-tip black marker, optional

Pour a small amount of paint into dish, making sure to use a separate dish for each color.  Dip thumb or fingertip into paint and press onto egg in a random fashon – or make a bunny face, using marker to draw eyes and whiskers as pictured above.  Clean fingertip between colors.  Place egg in holder and let dry.

And some other fun ideas!

Tye-Died Eggs:
Wrapping rubber bands around eggs prior to dyeing allows older kids to “stretch” their imaginations and create twisty, trendy patterns.
Stamped Eggs:
Purchased rubber stamps are a quick way to accent an egg.
Sponge-Painted Eggs:
Clip a sponge to a clothespin.  It helps younger children get a better “handle” on this fun technique.
Free-form Eggs:
Add one tablespoon vegetable oil to each color of mixed dye.  The dye won’t stick where the vegetable oil lands on the egg, leaving mysterious and magical spots and shapes.
